The Somes river basin

The Somes river basin is a cross-border basin located in the north-western part of Romania and in the north-eastern part of Hungary. It is one of the most important tributaries of the Tisza River. As such, it is part of the greater catchment area of the Danube river. Its total length is around 427 km, the Romanian part of the river has a length of 376 km and the Hungarian part has a length of 51 km. The surface of the river basin is 18 146 kmB and has an average discharge level of approximately 125 mC/s. The Somes springs from the Romanian Carpathian Mountains and flows out in the Tisza River at Vásárosnamény, Hungary.
